Educator, Strategist & Learning Systems Designer

Graeme Smith is an educator, strategist, and designer of AI-enhanced learning systems. With over 20 years' experience in post-secondary education and capability building across Aotearoa, he specialises in turning complex ideas into practical, culturally grounded frameworks. Within the AI For Good education stream, Graeme helps shape the design of learning pathways and provides strategic guidance to partners across government, industry, and iwi on the responsible and confident integration of generative AI.

Liza Kohunui - Māori Educator & Learning Designer

Liza Kohunui

Māori Educator & Learning Designer

Liza Kohunui is an Indigenous strategic consultant, educator, and developer of kaupapa Māori–aligned AI tools and governance systems. With more than 20 years' experience across tertiary education, hauora, justice, and Indigenous governance, she specialises in translating policy, cultural knowledge, and community needs into practical solutions that strengthen iwi and hapū decision-making. Her work weaves mātauranga Māori, digital innovation, and organisational strategy to support iwi and industry partners to uphold integrity, rangatiratanga, and intergenerational wellbeing. Within the AI for Good and Indigenous data futures space, Liza helps design ethical pathways that empower whānau and enable Indigenous communities to engage in emerging technologies with confidence, safety, and sovereignty.

Our Mission

AI for Tertiary is a comprehensive learning platform designed to bridge the gap between artificial intelligence and education, providing tertiary educators with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to integrate AI thoughtfully and responsibly into their teaching practice.

Created by Graeme Smith and Liza Kohunui in partnership with AI for Good (NZ), our work centers on three core principles:
